Key Scripture
"I gave you milk, not solid lechem (food), for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready." (1 Corinthians 3:2)
Devotional Story
Young Caleb had just come to a profound understanding of Yahshua as the Messiah, and his heart was ablaze with zeal. He devoured every scripture he could find, but soon found himself frustrated, grappling with deep prophetic mysteries and complex theological debates that seemed to swirl around him. He felt an intense desire to understand everything at once, often feeling disheartened when the nuances of ancient texts or intricate end-time prophecies eluded his grasp. He yearned for the "deep things," believing that true spiritual growth meant immediately comprehending the most challenging teachings.
One evening, his mentor, a wise elder named Shimshon, observed Caleb’s struggle. Shimshon, with a knowing smile, handed Caleb a simple book on the foundational truths of the B'rit Chadashah (Renewed Covenant), like repentance, immersion (mikvah), and the Ruach Ha Qodesh. He explained that just as a baby cannot digest solid meat but thrives on nourishing milk, so too our spiritual understanding must develop gradually. He encouraged Caleb to first build a strong foundation of simple, vital truths, allowing his spirit to grow robust before attempting to chew on the weightier matters, assuring him that Yahweh's timetable for spiritual maturity is perfect.

Translation: Bread, Food, Sustenance
Ancient Pronunciation: leh-khem (with a guttural 'ch' sound)

Deeper Significance
The word 'lechem' (bread/food) often represents sustenance, not just physically but spiritually. Its ancient pictographic meaning beautifully illustrates the guidance (Lamed) and effort (Chet) required to sustain life (Mem). In our scripture, Sha'ul (Paul) uses the analogy of 'milk' versus 'solid lechem' to speak of spiritual nourishment. He understood that the Ruach Ha Qodesh (Set-Apart Spirit) guides each believer's journey, providing teachings suitable for their stage of growth. Yahshua Himself declared, "I am the lechem (bread) of life" (Yochanan (John) 6:35), signifying that He is the ultimate spiritual sustenance, to be consumed and understood in increasing measure as we mature in our walk with Yahweh.
Call to Action
Consider your own spiritual diet today. Are you attempting to consume spiritual "meat" before your digestive system is ready, leading to frustration or confusion? Or perhaps you've been on "milk" for too long and are ready to carefully, prayerfully seek deeper truths? Ask the Ruach Ha Qodesh to show you what kind of spiritual nourishment you need most right now. Commit to patiently building a solid foundation in Yahweh's Word, trusting His timing for your growth, and allowing Him to guide you from spiritual milk to solid lechem, one truth at a time.
