Key Scripture
"And now why are you waiting? Arise and be immersed, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of Yahshua." (Acts 22:16)
Devotional Story
Imagine a man, blinded not just by physical light, but by the zeal of his former convictions, sitting in utter darkness. His world, once so clearly defined by his understanding of the Torah (Instruction), has been shattered by an encounter with the living Yahshua. He believed he was serving Elohim (Creator), but he was persecuting the very manifestation of Yahweh. Ananias's words cut through the confusion and the darkness, presenting a clear, immediate path forward: to arise and undergo the mikvah (immersion), spiritually cleansing himself and acknowledging the one he had opposed.
This moment for Sha'ul (Paul) was a profound turning point. It wasn't about understanding every detail of his future or fully grasping the depth of his transformation. It was about immediate, obedient action. He had been knocked down, confronted by the emet (truth), and now he was being told to stand up – to physically move and symbolically wash away the old self through mikvah (immersion), embracing a new identity in Yahshua. His journey from zealous persecutor to dedicated emissary of Yahshua began not with a grand theological treatise, but with a simple, decisive step of obedience.

- Word: קוּם / 𐤒𐤅𐤌 (qum) [H6965]
- Translation: Arise, Stand up, Establish
- Ancient Pronunciation: koom
Pictographic Meaning
- (sun at the horizon - circling/appointed time) (Qoph) ק / 𐤒
- (tent peg - add/secure/establish) (Waw) ו / 𐤅
- (water - chaos/mighty/new beginning) (Mem) מ / 𐤌
Deeper Significance
The word qum (arise) is far more than a simple command to change physical posture. From an ancient Hebraic perspective, it signifies a decisive turning point, an establishment of a new reality or purpose. The pictographs convey a "divinely appointed time" (Qoph) to be "secured" or "established" (Waw) out of a state of "chaos" or for a "mighty new beginning" (Mem). For Sha'ul, this was a summons to step out of his past life and into the very purpose Yahweh had ordained for him, an active response to a divine encounter that profoundly shifted his entire being and established a new covenant journey.
Call to Action
Just as Sha'ul was told to "Arise," Yahweh still calls each of us to respond with immediate obedience to His prompting. Is there an area in your life where Yahweh is urging you to "arise" – to step out of hesitation, to embrace a new path, or to leave behind something that no longer serves His will? Don't delay. Take that decisive step of faith today, knowing that Yahweh's call always comes with His provision and His power to establish you in His ways.
